Construction on Phase 1 begins in February 2023

Construction on the Three Mile Creek Watershed Restoration project will begin in early 2023. Phase 1, which includes bank stabilization from University Blvd to Museum Drive, will begin in February. The contractor for this phase is James H. Adams & Son Construction. Phase 2 is anticipated to begin in May and Phase 3 is anticipated to begin in August. These phases may be contracted separately.

City Council to consider draft UDC

The current proposed UDC (shown here) was considered by City Planning Commission the March 10, 2022 public hearing. At that hearing, Planning Commission recommended that the proposed UDC be considered by City Council at a future public hearing. Alabama state law requires at least two public hearings for adoption – one with the Planning Commission followed by one with the City Council. Planning Commission to reconsider UDC

During the City Council public hearings in late 2021, several changes were proposed to the UDC. To reinitiate the formal adoption process, the current proposed UDC will be reconsidered by City Planning Commission at a public hearing. Alabama state law requires at least two public hearings for adoption – one with the Planning Commission followed by one with the City Council. Adoption process moves to City Council [UPDATE Sept 24, 2021]

On April 1, City Planning Commission recommended the draft UDC articles to City Council. It is anticipated that Council will convene multiple meetings to discuss the UDC and take public comment prior to voting on the ordinance.
