Broad Street to close from Canal to Government

Mobile, Ala. – Beginning next week, Broad Street will be closed from Government Street to the roundabout at the intersection of Canal Street so crews can begin replacing underground utilities and adding new curbs, ramps, and drainage features to the area. This section of Broad Street will close at approximately 6 a.m. on Monday, April 25, and will remain closed for several months as the work in this area continues. Planning Commission to reconsider UDC

During the City Council public hearings in late 2021, several changes were proposed to the UDC. To reinitiate the formal adoption process, the current proposed UDC will be reconsidered by City Planning Commission at a public hearing. Alabama state law requires at least two public hearings for adoption – one with the Planning Commission followed by one with the City Council. Adoption process moves to City Council [UPDATE Sept 24, 2021]

On April 1, City Planning Commission recommended the draft UDC articles to City Council. It is anticipated that Council will convene multiple meetings to discuss the UDC and take public comment prior to voting on the ordinance.
