On April 16, 2026, the Planning Commission recommended approval of amendments to the Downtown Development District code (Appendix A of the UDC). The City Council will now consider the amendments at a Public Hearing during their June 2, 2026 meeting. The current proposed UDC (shown here) was considered by City Planning Commission the March 10, 2022 public hearing. At that hearing, Planning Commission recommended that the proposed UDC be considered by City Council at a future public hearing. Alabama state law requires at least two public hearings for adoption – one with the Planning Commission followed by one with the City Council. The draft UDC may be revised during the City Council review process. Information about City Council Hearings can be found on www.cityofmobile.org

During the City Council public hearings in late 2021, several changes were proposed to the UDC. To reinitiate the formal adoption process, the current proposed UDC will be reconsidered by City Planning Commission at a public hearing. Alabama state law requires at least two public hearings for adoption – one with the Planning Commission followed by one with the City Council. On April 1, City Planning Commission recommended the draft UDC articles to City Council. It is anticipated that Council will convene multiple meetings to discuss the UDC and take public comment prior to voting on the ordinance.
